Evaluation

Define what you understand as a healthy, ‘balanced meal’ using one or more of the ‘food models’ you have investigated ( Diet pyramid, healthy eating plate etc)
A healthy balanced meal contains the right portions of the right types of food your body needs to function well. As shown in a diet pyramid, the biggest food group that we need is wheat's, breads, pasta, etc. This group provides our bodies with carbohydrates to give us energy. The next group is fruits and vegetables, which give us vitamins and minerals. Then there is meats and dairies which contain protein and calcium. Finally there are fats and oils which is the smallest group. All of these food groups are important to our bodies and need to be consumed daily.

Explain why you made the food choices for your Pizza meal. (This can be for nutritional content, time, facilities available in kitchen, your skill level, appearance of final meal etc.)
My pizza had tomato paste, cheese, avocado and chicken on it as well as the pizza base. I also had a small fruit salad on the side with apple and strawberries. I chose these foods as together they make up a balanced meal as my pizza meal contains wheat, vegetables and fruits, meat and cheese, and a small bit of fat. Also, i chose these foods as they are easy and quick to prepare and they are all really yummy!

Discuss how well you think you executed this task. (This can include any problems you encountered, your time management, general organization, safety, final product satisfaction etc.)
While making the pizza, I worked well and efficient and I finished a while before the class ended. My pizza turned out really well, however, when i had cooked my pizza i was putting it into my container and i dropped it on the floor!! This was sad because i couldn't eat it but fortunately Mrs baker marked it before i dropped it. Before I dropped my pizza, it smelt and looked really good and I was proud of it. I also cleaned up really quickly and I used almost all of the ingredients I wrote down. However, I didn't use all of my fruit so I shouldn't have put that much on my list. I think I was well prepared before I got into the kitchen and I had thought through what I was going to do first and how to prepare the foods, such as slicing the avocado. Overall, I believe I worked well in the kitchen.

What have you learned from this task?
I learnt skills about cooking that I can remember for life, like preparing and cooking foods. I also learnt about healthy eating and how important it is to have a balanced, healthy diet. And that healthy foods can still be yummy!! I also learned about food labelling and the long process food goes through to become safe for people to eat, including best before dates, the requirements and packaging.

What would you do differently next time?
Next time I would be very careful not to drop my pizza! I would also add more things to it to make it more tasty and creative. Also, I would be really careful and think through the quantities and servings I need for each food.

Hospitality this term.
Hospitality and Services this term has been really fun and interesting! I have learned some useful things about cooking and now I know some good easy snacks to make if I'm hungry. I really enjoyed the pizza task, even though I couldn't eat the pizza, it was so much fun to make. I love hospitality and it is so much fun and really tasty!! :)

I found that everything went well and i worked quickly and got cleaned up in time, however at the end of the lesson I dropped my pizza on the floor so I couldnt eat it which was sad. I have to complete my evaluation by wednesday and then all of my assesment for hospitalty will be done!

I worked with Catlin and they were fun to make. We used flour, sugar, butter and some other ingredients to make them. We also used an electric beater to mix them. Next prac lesson is the pizza prac and I'm starting to think hard about how i am actually going to make the pizza and what to do first. It gong to be fun!

Monday, August 8, 2011

In today's lesson we did a sample menu where we had to write the measurements we would need for the mac and cheese, the apple crumble and the chicken and avocado quewadillas. It wasn't that hard and it has really helped me with my pizza menu. I am thinking my pizza is going to have cheese, chicken, avocado, and maybe a mini fruit salad on the side, but I need to think about how much time i have in the kitchen. I hope to get my food order done within the next few days.

I worked with Grace and they were really fun to make! We worked well together and we got them done quickly.
Cant wait till next lesson!!

Today we made mac and cheese.
Making it was fun but it required a lot of patience as the water took ages to boil! Me and my partner Pepper worked well together and we were organised but we need to be quicker cleaning up. I'll work on that next lesson. The pasta was yummy and I really liked the sauce, but it was a bit plain so next time i would put more salt in it.
Next lesson we are doing another prac and we are making scones. I'm really excited!!

Sunday, July 31, 2011

Last lesson we made apple crumble in the kitchen. It was really yummy!
The lesson was fun and I learnt how to slice an apple properly which was good. I really liked the apple skinner and cutter, I thought it was cool. I was also surprised how easy it was to make.

I have been completing the activities and thinking about the pizza I am going to make. I think so far I am going to have a fruit juice on the side to make it a balanced meal with fruits.

Next Wednesday we are having another prac lesson and I'm really excited to see what we are making!

Today was our first lesson in the kitchen. We made potato and a coleslaw and to my surprise it wasn't that bad. Making it was really fun.
Working in the kitchen today was the same as it was last year with all of the equipment mostly in the bays and when you come you have to get an apron and kitchen cloths. When working in the kitchen its really important to be organised and on time, or you can miss some important information.
We learnt about food preparation and cut things up like mints and lettuce. I also learnt that when you cook in a microwave, the food is cooked from the inside as opposed to the outside like an oven.
While making the food we also did things like getting juice from lemons and shredding carrots. It was all really fun!
I have started competing the first activity in the assignment and it isn't very hard so I hope to get it done by tomorrow. I really don't want to have to complete everything at the last minute so ill try my best to spread out the tasks through the term.
In the last lesson, we had a better look at the assignment and I realised that it wasn't that bad.
We also watched a video about nutrition and it really made me think about the food I was eating and my balance of foods. I do think that I have a relatively good eating habit but it could be improved with less junk food and more vegys.
I've been going on with the ongaurd tests and I have found them quite easy however sometimes it takes one or two attempts to finish it. Also, when I have tried to complete some at home, the computer wont let me open up the website so i still have a few more tests to complete. Ill have to do them at school.
Tomorrow, our next lesson of hospo, we are making something with potato in it. I'm excited, except some of the other girls told me that it wasn't very yummy. It will be fun to make though!

First lesson

Today is the very first hospo lesson for 2011! :)

We have been given a brief look at the work we are going to do over the term and it looks like alot but I think I can manage. The pizza making looks really fun and I can't wait to make all of the yummy food.
I think that hospitality is going to be interesting and really fun this year!
